We just recently finished making a trailer for a webseries and are getting ready to shoot the first episode in August. We thought we'd take some time to let you ask any and all questions!

A bit about the show:

Scars is a dramatic series that focuses on the intertwining lives of four friends and their struggling journeys. They each work to sort out their intersectional identities, and overcome difficult obstaclesin their lives. Scars honestly examines the relationships we have with each other, and with ourselvesthrough the narrative of these four characters. We explore what those connections mean and whathappens when they break, leaving us fragmented and broken.

This show is geared towards those in the mid-twenties to mid-thirties range who are LGBTQ and alsofor anyone who has dealt with depression, self harm, bipolar disorder, borderline personalitydisorder or suicide. This show is for those who need to be reminded that they are not alone. Despitehow dark “Scars ” will get, it is ultimately about hope in the face of overwhelming despair.

I should also add that, while all questions will be answered here, there will be a livestream going on at the same time where we'll chat and elaborate further. I recommend listening to that as well for the full experience:

Also, if you'd like to check out the trailer, feel free to do so here:

Is the whole series a serious one showing lots of pain and struggles? Do you have any humor factor in it?

How do you feel about collaborateing with people from all around the world, for instance would you ever give a shot to an independent person looking for an opportunity to break into the film world?

Will you be working on promotion of the series till August?
Mar 18, 10:33PM EDT0
Will your series highlight some of the unpopular opinions people you have regarding the LGBT community?
Mar 18, 10:00PM EDT0
What's your favourite series so far and why?

Is everything ready in terms of production equipment and crew for the shoot?

Why did you choose August to start your shooting? Is there any specific reason for it? What do you look forward from that period of the year?
Mar 18, 5:41PM EDT0
Is your series suitable for the family audience, especially children? If not, which age group do you target in specific?
Mar 18, 2:30PM EDT0

Rain: It is not for a family audience. There is some very serious subject matter that is covered.  We're targetting people in their early twenties to mid thirties, as we believe this would be most relatable to people in that group.

Why didn’t you to take your series to TV sets? Why do you prefer web more than Televisions?

What did it take to start your project? What were the research and preparations done prior to it?

In your opinion, can human nature be changed and should it be changed?
Mar 17, 1:19PM EDT0

Rain: Nope and mostly nope.

Sure, we can instill beliefs at a young age, but really, human nature will kick in. I'll use myself as an example: At a young age, religion was something that was instilled in my life. The belief in an all knowing god and the stories the bible told being true. But, my inquisitive nature was to challenge those beliefs. This included doing so in Sunday school as these beliefs were being taught. I was always asking questions and challenging the status quo in general. This natural instinct overrode anything I was taught.

Some people's nature is terrible. I want to say THAT should be changed (the world would be a better place) but it's what makes everyone unique.

Some people believe that if life has no purpose, then there is no reason for living. While others think that if life has no purpose, that frees a person to find/create and follow their own personal purpose. Which, do you believe, is a more valid point of view or are they both equally valid?
Mar 16, 8:19PM EDT0

Rain: This question is something I grapple with when I hit a low with my depression. But outside of that, I think life's purpose is whatever you make it to be. Life was an accident on this planet. We evolved. Our purpose used to be to stay alive, procreate and protect our offspring until they could venture into the world... back before we developed higher reasoning skills and egos and all the other things that make humans the species that we are. I still think, from an instinctual perspective, that that is our purpose.

We're odd though, since not everyone has that instinct anymore. So in short, I think both answers are equally valid but as a whole I believe that not having a purpose or "destiny" is freeing. We control our own purpose.

In the past people were buried with the items they would need in the afterlife, what would you want buried with you so you could use it in the afterlife?
Mar 16, 5:56PM EDT0

Rain: A shotgun! Not really. I'm not a materialistic person, I wouldn't want to be buried with anything. If someone was going to leave something anyways... yeah I don't have an answer for this.

If you could switch two movie characters, what switch would lead to the most inappropriate movies?
Mar 16, 5:49PM EDT0

Rain: Mrs. Doubtfire and Freddy Krueger

Michael: Stormy Daniels and anyone

Mar 18, 6:19PM EDT0
What two questions would you ask to get the most information about who a person truly is?
Mar 16, 3:23AM EDT0

Rain: What 5 things could you never live without and Who is most important to you.

These are excellent indicators about what is important to somewhere and what their values are.

Whose the funniest among all the actors and whose's the most serious one?
Mar 15, 1:30PM EDT0

Rain: None of our actors are really serious. Everyone is pretty laid back and equally funny in their own way (a cop out answer I know.)

Who came up with the name of the series " Scars" and what's the thought behind the title?
Mar 15, 11:43AM EDT0

Rain: Back when it was a webcomic, the title was "Don't Let Go" and it was something my friend, and roommate at the time, had told me when I was nearing my depressive cycle. These are words that have always resonated with me.

As for "Scars", when it changed mediums I began thinking of a new name for it. The show had an addition of two new characters and it became so much more than just a show about depression, suicide and transitioning. It became about how we interlace with each other, and when that breaks, it leaves wounds that never truly heal. Scars.

This was also heavily influenced by events going on in my life at the time.

Where will you be shooting most of the series?
Mar 15, 9:30AM EDT0

Rain: Most of it will be shot in Toronto, Ontario Canada.

What sort of person is going to love this series and the characters?
Mar 11, 2:33PM EDT0

Rain: "Love" is a strong word. I would use "connect" instead. People who fall into LGBTQ and/or suffer from mental illness, like depression, I think will be able to connect with the show. I think we have some pretty good representation in the show, including asexual characters.

When you have a five-minute break during rehearsal, what do cast spend that time doing?
Mar 11, 1:04PM EDT0

Rain: I can't speak for the cast, but as the producer/director, I'm mainly checking on things during a break and if I do get a few minutes, I'm usually popping in with other cast and crew who are on break. I'm not sure how much they care for that though.

Michael: I read a lot on set, most of the novels I have read in the last two years or so have been thanks to breaks in filming. I usually carry a crossword with me too, or take a minute to read the headlines. I like to learn a lot on set, at least until someone comes along with an exceptionally good meme for me too look at.

Stephanie: A lot of us are friends on set; many of us only met because of this set! So during the "wait" part of "hurry up and wait" we're often found cracking jokes, sharing memes, making silly faces and singing at each other. Fun story: at the very end of our last shoot day for the trailer, I was in a car driving home with our set photographer and sound recordist, and they were singing Hamilton at the absolute top of their lungs. I was so exhausted that I slept in the back seat - and slept through all of that!
